Scanfill launches food-contact approved recycled PP Film

Scanfill  has introduced Scanfoil rPP POP (Prevented Ocean Plastic™), a new plastic film made with 30% post-consumer recycled polypropylene (PCR PP) and approved for food contact applications. Available in a range of transparency levels, the new film delivers the same performance as virgin PP, offering a long-awaited solution for the food packaging industry.

Scanfoil rPP POP has also been developed to comply with the upcoming requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Before being converted into film, the recycled material undergoes a comprehensive quality assurance process:

“Our supplier processes the material using an advanced recycling technology, which is essential for obtaining food contact approval ” - explains Karl Banke, Sustainability Specialist & Technical Support -“Once the material arrives at Scanfill, it undergoes an additional series of tests to ensure it fully meets the safety requirements for food contact applications.”

The new film is fully recyclable, fully traceable and offers a strong environmental profile. The recycled raw material comes from plastic cups collected in coastal areas of Southeast Asia, where they would otherwise be at risk of polluting rivers and oceans, helping to reduce marine pollution while supporting a more circular use of plastics.
