DS Smith, part of the International Paper Group and a global provider of sustainable fibre-based packaging solutions, has partnered with Give a Tree (Geefeenboompje.nl) to highlight the role of design and innovation in packaging for gift trees.
The company, has developed a recyclable corrugated cardboard package that is both robust and sustainable, designed for the range of tree gift products sold online by Give a Tree. The solution has been designed to combine packaging quality with functional design performance, resulting in a concept where technical innovation, supply chain optimisation and visual appeal are seamlessly integrated.
The DS Smith team improved the design using a die-cutting technique, incorporating ventilation holes strategically positioned to optimise airflow within the package. Thanks to the use of fully recyclable materials, this approach also offers additional benefits in terms of performance during the folding process in packing operations. The overall aesthetics of the design have been enhanced to improve visual impact, and the solution can be customised with a logo and/or a message on the outer surface.
With the new packaging, these gift boxes present a more consistent look and feel aligned with the overall unboxing experience, which is therefore enhanced. The design helps reinforce the company’s sustainability message and mission.
Give A Tree has contributed to the planting of over 300,000 trees and has grown rapidly in the Netherlands, later expanding into Belgium, France, and Denmark.
