Two pioneers in sustainable innovation, Scanfill and Sulapac, have joined forces to introduce Degrafoil Flow 1.7, a bio-based, compostable packaging film poised to transform industrial thermoforming across Europe. The new material offers a tangible, scalable solution to the growing demand from brands and consumers for eco-conscious packaging alternatives.
Manufactured at Scanfill’s facility in southern Sweden, Degrafoil Flow 1.7 is made using Sulapac Flow 1.7, a wood-based composite that combines the functionality of plastic with the environmental benefits of fibrous materials. The material is industrially compostable and features a high bio-based content, significantly lowering its carbon footprint compared to conventional plastics such as PET.

One of the key strengths of the new solution is its seamless integration into existing production lines: Degrafoil Flow 1.7 is designed for direct use in thermoforming machines, requiring no changes to current processes – a true “plug and play” alternative.
We had long been searching for a compostable option to include in our product range, but only Sulapac was able to meet our quality standards,” explains Karl Banke, Sustainability Specialist at Scanfill. “With Degrafoil Flow 1.7, our clients can meet increasing demands for renewable content and lower emissions – while continuing with business as usual.
Aesthetically, finished products made with Degrafoil Flow 1.7 offer a smooth, natural, fibre-like surface with virtually unlimited colour possibilities. In terms of scratch resistance and durability, it performs on par with traditional plastic films.
