KHS has unveiled Premium LITE, a water bottle made from 100% recycled PET that sets new standards in lightweight design. Weighing just 6.2 grams in the 0.25-litre format, it represents a technological breakthrough demonstrating how sustainability and economic efficiency can converge.
The bottle, developed in collaboration with Husky Technologies, uses exclusively post-consumer recycled PET, completely eliminating dependence on virgin plastic. The reduction of 1-2 grams per bottle, multiplied across industrial volumes, translates into significant environmental benefits and economic savings estimated at thousands of pounds for large-scale productions.
Precision technology
At the heart of the innovation lies KHS's Blomax technology, which enables millimetre-precise control of wall thickness through high-precision stretch blow moulding. This approach allows material distribution only where necessary, optimising structural resistance whilst maintaining minimum weight.
Industrial impact
Compatibility with existing high-speed production lines eliminates the need for plant modifications, accelerating large-scale adoption. With recycled PET priced at approximately £1.10 per kilogram, manufacturers can achieve immediate reductions in operational costs without quality compromises.
The German paradigm
"German-made design makes all the difference," emphasises Frank Fretwurst of KHS. The German approach combines engineering rigour with sustainable vision, demonstrating that technical excellence can drive the transition towards a more circular economy.
Premium LITE represents a replicable model for the entire beverage sector, where weight optimisation no longer means compromises on quality or design, but becomes the primary driver for truly sustainable packaging.
