ICO: Solutions for Sustainable Logistics

In a context where sustainability is a necessity, packaging is taking on an increasingly central role - not only due to growing consumer awareness of “green” products, packaging, and supply chains, but also because of the strong influence this awareness has on purchasing behaviour. A responsible logistics approach must therefore meet key requirements such as:

  • Volume optimisation
  • Strength and effective protection of goods
  • Recyclable and/or biodegradable materials
  • Adaptability, versatility, and inclusiveness

ICO, a corrugated cardboard manufacturer, knows this well. Since its founding - and especially following the creation of ICO-LAB - the company has been combining innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, offering smart, tailor-made alternatives for every stage of the distribution chain.

A clear example is the latest project developed at ICO-LAB: transport boxes for garments and outerwear.

With a view to continuous improvement, the company’s designers started from the solution currently in use and replaced the traditional plastics or metal clothes rail with a structure made entirely from corrugated cardboard. This solution, tested and proven to be effective, is engineered from a single sheet of corrugated cardboard.

Significant advantages:

  • Transport and storage: Like the box itself, the rail is delivered flat-packed, thus reducing volume and associated costs.
  • Assembly: Manual assembly is simple and requires no glue or additional materials.
  • Recyclability: The entire packaging is made from corrugated cardboard, making it easy to dispose of through recycling systems.
  • Adaptability: All dimensions can be customised, including the spacing between the slots where hangers are hooked, according to customer requirements.

The project is patent pending and marks another step forward towards innovation that increasingly tends to converge with and overlap the pursuit of sustainability.
