Amcor launches the sustainable closure redefining household packaging

Amcora global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has unveiled its latest innovation: the Hector Child Resistant Closure (CRC). Developed in polypropylene, this ultra-lightweight closure brings together safety, functionality, and sustainability for the home care market.

Weighing just 7.25 grams, Hector is among the lightest closures currently available, delivering significant material savings compared to conventional options. For a one-million-piece order, it can reduce plastic use by 6.75 tonnes compared to a standard 14-gram closure – offering a tangible reduction in environmental impact.

Assessed with industry-recognised recyclability self-assessment tools, Hector achieves the highest recyclability rating when paired with HDPE or PET bottles. It can also be manufactured with up to 100% CleanStream, Amcor’s high-quality post-consumer recycled polymer developed for non-food-contact packaging.

Functional design with shelf appeal
Ideal for products such as bleach and toilet cleaners, Hector features a distinctive curved design with a directional spout and domed overcap, complementing the typical contours of home cleaning bottles. With neck finishes of 38mm for HDPE and 36mm for PET, it enhances shelf visibility, while unique thumb and finger grips ensure a reliable squeeze-and-turn CRC mechanism.

The spout allows for precise application, even in hard-to-reach areas, and the tight-fitting overcap provides a secure, leak-resistant seal.

A step forward in sustainable packaging
Hector is very much a consumer-driven design, supporting brands in creating strong shelf impact while meeting safety standards and sustainability targets, said Alejandra Beltran, Vice President of R&D at Amcor Global Rigid Packaging Solutions. It proves that ‘bigger’ doesn’t need to mean ‘heavier’ – it can still be functional, attractive and environmentally responsible.

With this launch, Amcor reaffirms its commitment to circular packaging solutions, aligned with the industry’s sustainability goals and increasing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products.
